In furtherance of the goal of retaining girls in school and helping them avoid child marriage, the YHFG organises free remedial school for girls and boys at its youth centre in Yikene, Bolgatanga. The program, which is supported by JugendPartnerschaft Ghana (JPG), also provides free accommodation for girls from remote rural communities to enable them to participate in the remedial school. The school runs from May to November each year and prepares the participants to re-write any failed papers in the October-November examinations. The program focuses on the core subjects, including Mathematics, English, Social Studies and General Science.
Currently, eight volunteer teachers are preparing the students both academically and psychologically towards the examinations. Currently, 39 students, including 31 girls and 8 boys are participating in the 2016 remedial school. Out of the 31 girls, 24 of them are housed at the youth centre, where they use the facilities at the centre to study for their exams.
