USAID Smart Agric-Finance (SAF)project was implemented by SNV and Fidelity bank in partnership with YHFG in the Upper East Region within a period of one year. The project aimed at increasing commercial opportunities for 2,780 smallholder farmers who primarily are women in the agricultural value chain through improved access to affordable financial services such as savings, credit facilities, financial literacy and insurance products. The project was successfully implemented and the closure event took place at the Ramzy Sports Stadium in Bolgatanga. The event was sponsored by the Netherland Development Organization (SNV) and Fidelity Bank. The purpose was to mark the exiting point of SNV at the community level and to encourage the beneficiaries to practice the financial literacy knowledge acquired during the series of training received. Out of the 2,780 smallholder farmers who benefited from the project, 1,744 (163 males and 1,581 females) have opened a savings account with the Fidelity Bank. The beneficiaries during the event expressed their gratitude to the Sponsors and Some testified that they have been able to increase their production through the savings in this year’s farming season. Fertilizers, herbicides and mobile phones were awarded to beneficiaries who saved regularly.
