The Chiefs and Assembly Members in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region joined hands with the Youth Harvest Foundation Ghana to openly speak against child marriage in their various communities. The chief of Zebilla in the Bawku West traditional area, Naaba Mba Mohammed, condemned child marriage during a stakeholder engagement meeting. He assured the Foundation that he was going to consult with Naba Asigri Abugurago Azoka II, the overlord of the Bawku Traditional area to come out with by-laws that will protect children from all forms of violence, including child marriage. Naaba Mba Mohammed admonished his sub-chiefs to implement such by-laws in their communities to prevent child marriage. He further stated that any chief who refuses to enforce such by-laws would be called before the paramount chief for the necessary action to be taken against them. The Youth Harvest Foundation team was happy to see the passion at which the chief spoke on the issues and pledged to work with them to end child marriage in the district.
